64 bits from the rival
In 2003 AMD introduced a 64-bit extension of the x86 architecture. Intel eventually adopted it, and today every x86 computer uses it. That is why it is often called AMD64.
Graphics
In 2006 AMD bought the graphics card maker ATI. The Radeon brand competes with NVIDIA GeForce, and AMD chips are found in consoles as well as in the Steam Deck.
The Ryzen comeback
Under Lisa Su's leadership came the Zen architecture and Ryzen processors, which offered more cores at a reasonable price. EPYC server processors now power a large share of data centres.
