Collecting insects
As a child Tajiri collected insects. He wanted children in cities to be able to experience the same joy of discovery. The Game Boy link cable let players trade Pokémon with friends and created a social phenomenon.
Pokémon GO
In July 2016 the augmented reality mobile game Pokémon GO came out. People walked through streets and parks with their phones in hand, catching Pokémon in real places. In its first weeks the game broke records, and it is still played today.
The brand
Pokémon covers games, collectible trading cards, an anime series running since 1997, films and toys. The main games still come out on Nintendo consoles.
