The end of chaos
Before USB, a computer had serial, parallel, PS/2 and game ports. USB, developed by a group of companies including Intel (Ajay Bhatt), made it possible to connect almost anything with a single type of connector, while the computer was running and without a restart.
Why a cable is not just a cable
USB-C is only the shape of the connector. A cable may handle USB 2.0 or 80 Gb/s, charge at 15 W or 240 W, and carry video or not. When buying, it pays to check the power and speed markings.
The common charger
The European Union made USB-C mandatory for new phones, tablets, headphones and other devices from the end of 2024, and for laptops from 2026. That is why Apple switched to USB-C with the iPhone 15.
