For its time Mafia had an exceptional story, voice acting and music. The 1930s cars handled realistically, the city lived its own life and the police would even fine you for speeding.

The game was made in Czechia, and for many players in Czechia and Slovakia it was proof that world-class games could be made here too. Lines from the dub are still quoted today.
The series continues
Mafia II (2010) was made by the 2K Czech studio. A remake of the first game came out in 2020, and in 2025 the prequel Mafia: The Old Country, set in Sicily, followed.
