Monitors and displays

Screens have gone from heavy cathode-ray tubes, invented by Karl Ferdinand Braun in 1897, through flat LCDs to OLED, where every pixel lights up on its own. Today's gaming monitors refresh the picture even more than 240 times per second.

What the numbers mean

  • Resolution: Full HD, 1440p, 4K. Higher means a sharper picture and greater demands on the graphics card.
  • Refresh rate: how many times per second the picture is redrawn. For games like CS2 or Siege the difference between 60 and 144 Hz is huge.
  • Response time and input lag: how quickly the monitor reacts.
